Re: Notice of Bridge Closure for Repairs - Nelson (Elephant Farm) Bridge - Harlemville Rd over Gnat Creek, Town of Ghent

Date: September 12, 2017

Please be advised that construction work to repair the bridge carrying Harlemville Road over the Gnat Creek, located approximately 1/4mile west of Rigor Hill Road in the Town of Ghent, will begin and the bridge will be closed to all traffic on Monday September 18, 2017.  Harlemville Road will be closed at the bridge site to all traffic, although all local traffic and residents will be able to access all properties located immediately east and west of the bridge at all times during the bridge repair work.  We anticipate the bridge repair work will take approximately 4-6 weeks to be completed and re-open the bridge to traffic.  Also, the currently posted 8-ton weight limit on this bridge will be eliminated and all legally loaded vehicles will be able to once again utilize this bridge.

All Harlemville Road traffic will be directed to use the temporary off-site detour during the bridge repair work period, which will be posted/signed on Harlemville Road, Columbia Co. Rte. 21C, NYS Rte. 217, Columbia Co. Rte. 9, NYS Rte. 66 and Water Street.

As always, we greatly appreciate your cooperation and understanding of the many issues we are facing with the County’s aging transportation infrastructure, and we do regret any inconvenience this action may cause to your various operations.
